Follow a feeling, not a score
On a creator-led site, read the project page before the comments. Look for what the developer says the game currently contains, whether it runs in a browser and what is still being worked on. A deliberately short experiment is not the same thing as an incomplete release, and a free download is not automatically a mobile game.
Read the creator’s page
On creator-led platforms, a game description can explain the intended length, controls, development state and sensitive themes. Development logs help distinguish an actively evolving project from a deliberately finished miniature. Browser and downloadable editions may offer different experiences.
Treat a prototype as a prototype
A jam entry can contain an excellent idea in a rough package. Judge whether that idea interests you instead of expecting the scope of a large release. Save progress when supported and keep expectations proportionate to the description. Leave specific, constructive feedback if the creator invites it.
Support deliberately
When a creator offers paid or pay-what-you-want access, read what is included and the relevant terms. Pay because the work fits your interests and budget, not because a countdown makes the decision feel urgent. Our itch.io and Newgrounds reviews offer two different routes into this space.
